FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about running video interviews with InterviewClip. For a tour of what the product does, see all features.

Getting started

What one-way interviews are, what they cost, and how to begin.

What is a one-way video interview?

Instead of a live call, you send candidates a set of questions they answer by recording short videos on their own time. You review the answers whenever it suits you: no scheduling, no time zones, no no-shows.

Is the free plan a trial?

No. The free plan is a permanent plan, not a time-boxed trial: no credit card, no expiry date, and enough monthly volume to run a real hiring round at small scale. You upgrade only when your hiring volume outgrows it, and the pricing page shows exactly what each paid plan adds.

How much does it cost?

There is a free plan to get started, plus paid plans with higher monthly recording and AI allowances. You can also top up video or AI credits mid-month from Billing. See the pricing page for current details.

How do payments and billing work?

Paid plans are billed in USD. You manage your plan from the Billing area in the app, you can cancel anytime, and when a paid plan ends you move to the free plan with nothing deleted. See the pricing page for what each plan includes.

How do I get started?

Create your organization in a couple of minutes, build a question set, and send your first interview link, all on the free plan, with no credit card required.

For candidates

The experience on the other side of the link.

Do candidates need to create an account or install anything?

No. Candidates open a secure link and record directly in their browser on any device: phone, tablet, or laptop. There is no app to install and no account to create.

What is the candidate experience like?

Before recording, candidates run a quick camera and microphone check and try a practice question that is never submitted. Each question shows the time limit and a countdown, and, depending on your settings, they can re-record before submitting.

Can candidates re-record an answer?

Yes, if you allow it. Retakes are a per-job setting (one-shot or a set number of attempts). Retakes never count against your monthly recording allowance.

Are candidates told they are being recorded and that AI may be used?

Yes, always. Before recording, every candidate sees a consent step that names the recording, the transcription, and the possible use of AI tools on what they said, and states that people, not AI, make the hiring decisions. A candidate who does not consent cannot record.

What languages does InterviewClip support?

The product and transcripts are in English today. Candidates anywhere in the world can record from any device, and your team can review from anywhere.

Review & AI

Scoring together, transcripts, and what AI does (and never does).

Can my whole team review and score candidates?

Yes. Invite hiring managers and reviewers to score the roles assigned to them, leave comments, and apply a rating card for structured, consistent scoring.

Are answers transcribed?

Every answer gets a searchable English transcript, shown alongside the video. On paid plans you can also generate an AI summary of a candidate's whole interview to speed up your first pass. One AI credit covers a candidate's full interview, however many questions it has.

What is blind review?

Blind review is an organization-wide setting that hides other reviewers' scores until a reviewer has committed their own, so every score is an independent judgment rather than an echo of the first opinion. Admins and HR always see everything, so oversight is never blocked.

Does AI decide which candidates get hired?

No, and it never will on InterviewClip. AI features here do assistant work: transcribing answers, summarizing interviews, extracting CV data, and matching candidates to a job description. Every AI output is advisory, and your reviewers make the decisions. There is no biometric identification, no face analysis, and a candidate's voice is never used to identify them.

Is using AI in hiring even legal?

Laws on AI in hiring vary by place, such as the EU AI Act and several US state and city rules, and they focus on AI that makes or heavily influences decisions about candidates. InterviewClip keeps AI advisory and provides candidate notices and consent, but staying compliant with your local hiring rules remains your organization's responsibility. This is general information, not legal advice.

Privacy & data

Who sees what, how long videos live, and real deletion.

Who can see candidate recordings?

Only signed-in members of your organization, according to the roles and access rules you set. Recordings are never public, and reviewers see the jobs assigned to them. Candidates record through a private link that is theirs alone.

How do you handle candidate videos and privacy?

Videos are treated as personal data. They are uploaded securely, accessible only to your team, and deleted when you remove the related candidate, invitation, or job. Superseded recordings from a retake are removed automatically.

How long are interview videos kept, and are they backed up?

Every recording is backed up off-site automatically, so a single provider outage never means a lost interview. Each plan keeps videos for a set window, from 2 to 36 months depending on your plan, and we email your admins 30 and 7 days before anything is scheduled for deletion. Older videos move to durable long-term storage and return in minutes when you need them, while transcripts and AI summaries stay readable throughout. See the pricing page for each plan's retention window.

What happens when I delete a candidate?

Their videos, transcripts, and AI summaries are erased right away, and the off-site backup copies are deleted as part of the same process. Deletion is real deletion, not archiving.

Is InterviewClip GDPR compliant?

InterviewClip is built to GDPR standards as our worldwide baseline. Your organization is the data controller for your candidates and InterviewClip processes candidate data on your instructions, with data-processing commitments in our Terms of Service. When a candidate asks for their data to be erased, that request routes to your organization, which stays in control of the decision.
